DIETERICH YOUNG FAMILY

No record has been found to indicate that Dieterich Young descended from any of the Young (Jung) Palatine emigrants of 1710, but apparently he came to this country from Germany sometime before the Revolution. The records are inadequate but if appears that he located in the vicinity of Snyders Bush and Ephratah, N. Y. According to church records his wife was Christina Schaarman (in one instance spelled Acherman), and the church records of German Flats, Herkimer, St. Johnsville and Stone Arabia, show that they had children as follows:

2-2 Pieter R. born February 25, 1782, sponsors Peter Jung and Engel Merekel.

2-3 Maria (Mary) born April 3, 1785.

2-5 Margaretha, baptized January 25, 1789, testes Mrs. Margaretha Paris and Paul Hochstrasser.

MARGARETHA YOUNG

2-1 Margaretha Young, born Jan. 29, 1780, probably died young, as another daughter, born in 1789 (3-5) was given the same name (Margaret-Peggy). No further record found.

2-3 Maria Young, born April 3, 1785, married Adam R. Coppernoll (1785-1872) son of Richard Coppernoll and Elisabeth Loucks (Laux) and they had a son, Jacob Coppernoll.

3-1 Jacob Coppernoll, born January 11, 1818, died November 8, 1896. He married Amelia Rouse, daughter of Philip and Margaret Rouse, and they had four children:

4-2 Landgrave, born Nov. 22, 1846, died Oct. 30, 1924.

4-4 Franklin, born May 17, 1962, died Dec. 5, 1928; married Ida Gray (No issue).

2-4 Jacob Paris Young, born April 28, 1787, died March 4, 1859; married Era Coppernoll, daughter of Richard Coppernoll, Jan. 1, 1808. Their children were:

3-1 Lucy, born August 23, 1808, sponsors George Coppernoll and wife Peggy. (D.R. Church, Stone Arabia). She died March 12, 1872. Lucy married Robert Getman born May 4, 1805, son of George T. Getman and Margaret Cook. They had nine children.

3-2 Elisabeth, born Dec. 21, 1809, sponsors Peter Young and Elisabeth Coppernoll. (Stone Arabia D. R. C.) No further information.

3-3 Stephen, born at Ephratah April 16, 1812, sponsors Adam R. Coppernoll and wife Maria. He died Aug. 21, 1879; married Mary Ann Beck, born in 1817 and died Jan. 21, 1896. (Stone Arabia D. R. record).

3-4 Alexander, born July 16, 1814, sponsors George Hendrick Young and Catharina Gettman. (Stone Arabia Lutheran record). Probably died young.

3-5 Mary, born May 29, 1817, sponsors Richard Coppernoll and wife Elisabeth. (Stone Arabia D. R. record).

3-6 Magdalena, born Dec. 3, 1820, sponsors Richard P. Young and wife Nellie. (Stone Arabia D. R. record).

3-7 Anna (Nancy), born Nov. 24, 1823, sponsors Philipp Young and Cornelia. (Lutheran Church record).

3-8 Elexander, born Aug. 3, 1828, sponsors John P. Smith and wife Dolly. (Fort Plain D. R. record). No further record.

2-5 Margaret (Peggy) Young, baptized Jan. 25, 1789, died in 1845; married George R. Coppernoll. They had one daughter Elisabeth, born April 3, 1817 who married Charles Whitlock.

5-1 Clarence A., born Oct. 23, 1857; died young.

5-2 William Eugene, born Nov. 28, 1859, died Nov. 27, 1936. He married, first, Jennie Putnam, born May 1863, died about 1908. There were two children by this marriage:

William Eugene went to Montgomery, Alabama and married, second, Goudie Margaret Cureton, born July 15, 1871 and died Nov. 29, 1930. There were two children by this marriage:

5-3 Mary Estella, born Aug. 19, 1861, died Dec. 24, 1861.

5-4 Charles D., born Oct. 31, 1862, died June, 1932; married Ella Van Heusen Hohs, born March 23, 1868. No issue.

5-5 Herbert P., born May 25, 1866, died in 1936, married Emma Bixby and they had two daughters-Hazel and Edna. No further record.

5-6 Frank, born April 25, 1868, died Sept. 13, 1922; married Clara Bartlett and their children were:

5-7 Edward Young, born April 25, 1870, died August 6, 1889.

5-8 Bertha, born Jan. 16, 1872, married Edward Van Vleet,* Nov. 17, 1891, he was born March 14, 1868. Edward Van Vleet was the founder of the Van Vleet Glove Company, Gloversville, N. Y. They are both living (1945) and had children as follows:

6-1 Earl P. Young, born March 12, 1883, married Hattie Betts and they have a daughter Lorraine who married William Argotsinger.

7-1 Arvilla, born June 28, 1906, died June, 1927. She married Lawrence Buseck in June, 1923, and they had a son Lawrence (8 - 1) born March 9, 1925.

7-2 Allen, born April 11, 1910, married Ethel Rekemeyer April 5, 1933, and they have two children:

Walter Skiff died in 1925.

6-3 William C. Young married Emily Lowe, April 18, 1926 and they had two children:

4-2 James Young, born Sept. 21, 1840, died June 3, 1912; married Margaret Martin in 1865. She was born Oct. 8, 1848, died June 22, 1888. They had a son, Martin, born Jan. 22, 1869.

4-3 Laura Jane Young, born May 1, 1844, died Oct. 1, 1908; married Jacob H. Abel in 1860. He was born Sept. 3, 1839 and died Oct. 1, 1909. Their children were:

5-1 John, born June 12, 1865, died in 1936; married Annie E. Nellis, born Feb. 22, 1869. They were married March 16, 1887 and had three children-Alma, Eula and Chester.

5-2 Libbie, born May 27, 1866; married Charles Nellis and they had eleven children.

5-3 Marvin, born in 1868, died March 6, 1893 (unmarried).

5-4 George Abel, born June 25, 1873; married May 12, 1896, Flora Belle Newkirk, born April 10, 1880. They had two sons-Harold J. and Newton Almon.

5-5 Catherine Abel, born March 30, 1880; married (1st) John Spohn who died, leaving one son Everett Spohn. Catharine married (2nd) Calvin A. Wait, and they have a daughter, Gertrude Wait.

5-1 John Abel married Annie E. Nellis Mar. 16, 1887. Children:

5-1 Melvin Young, born Feb. 28, 1875, married in 1899 Juva Getman, born July 23, 1874. She died Oct. 18, 1945. They had one son:

6-1 Delbert M., born Oct. 31, 1903, married Gladys Lake, born Oct. 1, 1907, and they have two children:

5-2 Eugene Young married Lillian Coon, born Aug. 25, 1839 (deceased). They have a daughter Virginia, born Aug. 8, 1915; married Capt. William A. Barnes, Jr. May 14, 1942 at East Stroudsburg, Pa. They have a daughter, Bonnie Ann Barnes, born April 20, 1943.

5-1 Alvin Young, born Nov. 28, 1878, married April 18, 1906 Marguerite C. Sauer. Alvin is a clergyman, residing at Northville, N. Y. (1945). They have three children:

CHILD OF CLARK L. YOUNG

4-7 Clark L. Young, (son of Stephen) born April 5, 1864, died March 6, 1934; married Emma Getman of Johnstown June 30, 1886. She was born in Stone Arabia April 10, 1862, daughter of George Getman and Magdeline Dillenback Getman Young. She died May 4, 1938. They had one daughter:

5-1 Una A. Young, born Sept. 26, 1891; married Dr. W. R. Rathbun of Canajoharie, N. Y.

4-8 * Parmelia Young married George W. Abel, born in 1832 and died Jan. 21, 1893, aged 60 yrs. And 4 days. (His gravestone record in Ephratah cemetery). He was a brother of Jacob Abel who married Laura Jane Young (4-3). Children of George and Parmelia were William, John, Fernando, Anne, Mary and Minnie.

* No record appears on her grave stone, and her grand children would submit no record of her children.

4-2 Landgrave Coppernoll married Margaret Bender, born Aug. 6, 1859, died in 1940. They were married Nov. 23, 1881 and had four children.

Fifth Generation

5-1 Lester, born Dec. 15, 1885, married Letitia Lydon. They had two daughters:

5-2 Lizzie Viola Coppernoll, born Nov. 4, 1888; married Morris Saltsman and they had four children :

5-3 Jason B. Coppernoll, born January 19, 1892, married Ester Flint, born Sept. 15, 1893 (daughter of Wilbur E. Flint and Estella Flanders). They have eight children.

Sixth Generation

6-1 Wilbur Merton, born Aug. 21, 1912, married Ada Caroline Riley. (No issue).

6-2 Thelma Ester, born Dec. 17, 1913, married William J. Borst. They have two children: William E., born Dec. 6, 1936 and David B., born Aug. 31, 1939.

6-3 Arlene Lillian, born Feb. 18, 1915, married William J. Cuba. They have one son, Richard Coppernoll Cuba, born April 18, 1940.

6-4 Evah Mae, born Sept. 10, 1916, married Francis Segar who served with the Paratroopers in Europe. They have two sons: Brian C. Segar, born June 27, 1940, and Douglas C., born June 14, 1942.

6-5 Jason Burlin, Jr., born Feb. 18, 1918, married Jane Marie Ambridge and they have three daughters: Nancy Carol, born Oct. 2, 1939; Rose Marie, born July 31, 1941 ; and Sandra Lee, born August 7, 1943. Jason was with the combat forces in Europe, having enlisted in the Army in February, 1943. He is a member of Co. B. 290th Engineers. He saw action in France and Germany and v as awarded two battle stars, the Bronze Star, a Unit Citation and Good Conduct Ribbon.

6-6 Winifred Estella, born Aug. 16, 1920, married Earl Henry Hinkle and they have two children: Janice Elaine, born Dec. 21, 1941 and Earl Henry, Jr., born Feb. 22, 1943.

6-7 Harlow Richard, born July 1, 1926. He served with the Army overseas, having enlisted in August, 1943 and was trained as telegrapher and radio operator and served in France, Belgium and Germany. He wears the Good Conduct ribbon and one Battle Star.

6-8 Gertrude Margaret, born Aug. 24, 1922, died April 6, 1923.
