DIETERICH YOUNG FAMILY

No record has been found to indicate that Dieterich Young descended from any of the Young (Jung) Palatine emigrants of 1710, but apparently he came to this country from Germany sometime before the Revolution. The records are inadequate but if appears that he located in the vicinity of Snyders Bush and Ephratah, N. Y. According to church records his wife was Christina Schaarman (in one instance spelled Acherman), and the church records of German Flats, Herkimer, St. Johnsville and Stone Arabia, show that they had children as follows:

2-4 Jacob Paris Young, born April 28, 1787, died March 4, 1859; married Era Coppernoll, daughter of Richard Coppernoll, Jan. 1, 1808. Their children were:

3-1 Lucy, born August 23, 1808, sponsors George Coppernoll and wife Peggy. (D.R. Church, Stone Arabia). She died March 12, 1872. Lucy married Robert Getman born May 4, 1805, son of George T. Getman and Margaret Cook. They had nine children.

3-2 Elisabeth, born Dec. 21, 1809, sponsors Peter Young and Elisabeth Coppernoll. (Stone Arabia D. R. C.) No further information.

3-3 Stephen, born at Ephratah April 16, 1812, sponsors Adam R. Coppernoll and wife Maria. He died Aug. 21, 1879; married Mary Ann Beck, born in 1817 and died Jan. 21, 1896. (Stone Arabia D. R. record).

3-4 Alexander, born July 16, 1814, sponsors George Hendrick Young and Catharina Gettman. (Stone Arabia Lutheran record). Probably died young.

William Eugene went to Montgomery, Alabama and married, second, Goudie Margaret Cureton, born July 15, 1871 and died Nov. 29, 1930. There were two children by this marriage:

5-8 Bertha, born Jan. 16, 1872, married Edward Van Vleet,* Nov. 17, 1891, he was born March 14, 1868. Edward Van Vleet was the founder of the Van Vleet Glove Company, Gloversville, N. Y. They are both living (1945) and had children as follows:

6-1 Homer C. Van Vleet, born Oct. 19, 1892, married Helen L. Johnson, Oct. 8, 1921. She was born June 6, 1895. They have a daughter (7-1) Phyllis L. Van Vleet, born May 19, 1925.

6-1 Earl P. Young, born March 12, 1883, married Hattie Betts and they have a daughter Lorraine who married William Argotsinger.

CHILD OF CLARK L. YOUNG

4-7 Clark L. Young, (son of Stephen) born April 5, 1864, died March 6, 1934; married Emma Getman of Johnstown June 30, 1886. She was born in Stone Arabia April 10, 1862, daughter of George Getman and Magdeline Dillenback Getman Young. She died May 4, 1938. They had one daughter:

5-1 Una A. Young, born Sept. 26, 1891; married Dr. W. R. Rathbun of Canajoharie, N. Y.

4-8 * Parmelia Young married George W. Abel, born in 1832 and died Jan. 21, 1893, aged 60 yrs. And 4 days. (His gravestone record in Ephratah cemetery). He was a brother of Jacob Abel who married Laura Jane Young (4-3). Children of George and Parmelia were William, John, Fernando, Anne, Mary and Minnie.

7-1 Lola Evelyn Young, born May 1, 1912, married Stanley Hobbs Oct. 23, 1941, and they have a son, Stanley Young Hobbs, born June 1, 1944.

7-2 Eleanor Margaret Young, born Oct. 2, 1913, married George B. Slater May 5, 1944. He was killed in action in Italy October 17, 1944.

CHILDREN OF VERA YOUNG

6-2 Vera Young married William Baker Sept. 16, 1913. They had a son-Basil.

7-1 Following a divorce, Vera assumed her maiden name Young and the son took the name Basil Young. He married Helen Wickland Dec. 28, 1941, and they have one son Terrence Lee Young, born Dec. 22, 1944. Basil is now (1944) in the armed forces in Germany. Vera died October, 1945.

4-2 Landgrave Coppernoll married Margaret Bender, born Aug. 6, 1859, died in 1940. They were married Nov. 23, 1881 and had four children.

6-2 Ruth Coppernoll, born May, 1915, married Richard Walrath.

6-1 Glen, born Oct. 17, 1908, married Harriet Musgrave, and they had three children: Ila May, born Feb. 14, 1937; Gerald, born April 1, 1940; and Paul Glenn, born Dec. 24, 1942.

6-2 Emory, married Dorothy Duffy. (No issue).

6-3 Doris, born Sept. 25, 1914. married George J. Wilson and they have two children: Mary Elizabeth Wilson, born April 29. 1940; and William Morris Wilson, born March 7, 1942.

6-4 Lyman Jay, born July 23, 1922. He enlisted in the Navy September, 1942 and was aboard Admiral Nimitz's Flagship, South Dakota, when it steamed into Toyko Bay.

5-3 Jason B. Coppernoll, born January 19, 1892, married Ester Flint, born Sept. 15, 1893 (daughter of Wilbur E. Flint and Estella Flanders). They have eight children.

6-1 Wilbur Merton, born Aug. 21, 1912, married Ada Caroline Riley. (No issue).

6-2 Thelma Ester, born Dec. 17, 1913, married William J. Borst. They have two children: William E., born Dec. 6, 1936 and David B., born Aug. 31, 1939.

6-3 Arlene Lillian, born Feb. 18, 1915, married William J. Cuba. They have one son, Richard Coppernoll Cuba, born April 18, 1940.

6-4 Evah Mae, born Sept. 10, 1916, married Francis Segar who served with the Paratroopers in Europe. They have two sons: Brian C. Segar, born June 27, 1940, and Douglas C., born June 14, 1942.

6-5 Jason Burlin, Jr., born Feb. 18, 1918, married Jane Marie Ambridge and they have three daughters: Nancy Carol, born Oct. 2, 1939; Rose Marie, born July 31, 1941 ; and Sandra Lee, born August 7, 1943. Jason was with the combat forces in Europe, having enlisted in the Army in February, 1943. He is a member of Co. B. 290th Engineers. He saw action in France and Germany and v as awarded two battle stars, the Bronze Star, a Unit Citation and Good Conduct Ribbon.

6-6 Winifred Estella, born Aug. 16, 1920, married Earl Henry Hinkle and they have two children: Janice Elaine, born Dec. 21, 1941 and Earl Henry, Jr., born Feb. 22, 1943.

6-7 Harlow Richard, born July 1, 1926. He served with the Army overseas, having enlisted in August, 1943 and was trained as telegrapher and radio operator and served in France, Belgium and Germany. He wears the Good Conduct ribbon and one Battle Star.

6-8 Gertrude Margaret, born Aug. 24, 1922, died April 6, 1923.

5-4 Jacob L. Coppernoll, born Jan. 19, 1892, married Eva Kretser, born Feb. 4, 1909 and they have five children:

6-1 Milton Coppernoll, born June 15, 1922. P.F.C. Milton Coppernoll was with the Armed forces overseas and is said to have been the first soldier from Fulton county to be killed in action. His record is as follows: "Entered the Military service Nov. 10, 1942; received his basic training at Fort Bragg, N. C.; transferred to Camp Kilmer, N. J. He left on April 4, 1943 for overseas to serve in the North African Campaign; later saw service in Sicily and Italy and was then sent to England for a rest period. He was with the first Division that landed in France on D-Day when he was killed in action. He received (posthumously) the Purple Heart and was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action."

6-2 Gilbert J. Coppernoll, born Feb. 20, 1924.

6-3 Lorrene Katherine, born July 18, 1927.

6-4 Betty Jean, born April 4, 1932.

6-5 Laura May, born Jan. 16, 1934.
