2702. Henry V Berry Jr (George Washington Berry, Henry Vrooman Berry, Marie Vrooman, Neeltje Veeder, Peter, Peter Symonse, Simon Volkertse) was born on Nov 02 1838. He died on Dec 05 1894 in Ephratah, Fulton, NY.
History of Fulton County--Berry,Henry V.,Ephratah, was born in Mohawk, Montgomery county
November 2, 1839 (?). He is a son of George W. and Jerusha (Murray) Berrry, who reared a family of
eleven children, of whom Henry V. is the oldest. George W. was self-educated and self-made. He
was a great reader and well informed. By occupation he was a farmer. The family trace their
ancestry back to Captain Berry of revolutionary times. He was member of Assembly in 1836. Henry
V. Berry received a common school education, and was graduated from the Fort Edwards Institute in
1861. He followed the profession of teaching for eleven years and afterwards was a farmer. In 1864
he married Eleanor Nellis, daughter of Col Dewitt and Elizabeth (Miller)Nellis. Mr. Berry and wife
were blessed with five children, two of whom died in infancy. The three living are Kittie, wife of Garry
H. Snell, of Ephratah: Maggie, now Mrs. Norman Getman, and James V., who resides at home. Mrs.
Berry died in 1888. Mr. Berry is one of the charter members of the Oriskany Monument association.
He has been justice of the peace since 1870 excepting for three years, has been justice of sessions
for five ye4ars, chairman of teh Board of Education for a number of years, and was among those who
organized the Ephratah Rural Cemetery Association, and has perhaps done more than any other man
to make the association a success. He has been trustee and secretary since its organization in 1875
for the greater part, and is at present superintendent. He is a Mason and member of Lodge Garoga,
No. 300.

Frank Berry, owned farm called Round Barn Farm. The barn burned in 1947...about
70 head of cattle could be stabled in the basement . The upper part had a ramp
leading to hay mow whwere over 300 tons of hay and grain could be stored. At the
time the barn had been appraised at $40,000. It was assumed the fire was caused
by spontaneous combustion.
Frank Berry was clerk of school district #10 in 1907. He was noted as being one of
the finest of carpenters and if jokingly remembered for one who loved to attend court
cessions and hear lawsuits. It is remembered he was always developing solutions
for problems...some not quite so legal. He was raised basically by his mother who
spent her later years with him and his wife. She loved to ride in cars and was bent
over with arthritis they said. His father and mother split up when he was yet a young
child.
